2003–

Produced by an editorial team based at the London School of Oriental and African Studies, this database covers European-language books, articles, conference proceedings, and reviews of works dealing with all facets of Islam and the Islamic world. Coverage begins with 1906; the database is updated quarterly. It is offered on several platforms, and search features vary.

The original print index began with J. D. Pearson's Index Islamicus, 1906–1955, which was variously continued by quinquennial volumes, quarterly updates, and, since 1982, three update bulletins followed by an annual cumulation. This last version of Index Islamicus continues to appear in print; the database is also available on CD-ROM. Neither matches the currency of the online version. For earlier coverage, see Index Islamicus, 1665–1905.
